How to Make Your AI-Generated Content Match Your Brand Voice and Sound More Human

How many times have you tried to generate AI content where it sounded good but felt inauthentic to your brand voice? You’re not the only one. This is why people have dedicated their time and expertise to training AI for the best output. With the rising use of artificial intelligence, it’s easy to get swept up in the wave of efficiency, but if your content doesn’t align with your brand voice, it won’t resonate the way you want it to.

Let’s get real about using AI to generate content that not only sounds like your brand but makes it stand out!

Why Brand Voice Matters And How Ai Can Get It Wrong

Your brand voice is what sets you apart in a crowded marketplace. Think of it as the secret sauce that makes your brand recognizable and relatable across platforms, whether it’s your website, social media, or ad campaigns. Here’s the thing: AI doesn’t always get it right.  Here’s where it can go wrong:

  • Lack Of Personality: While AI can generate grammatically correct content, sometimes it lacks the personality that makes your brand you. Without clear prompting or training, your AI content can come off as generic, failing to connect with your audience on a deeper level.
  • Little To No Emotional Connection:  AI might nail the structure of a sentence, but it struggles with the emotional nuances that make your messaging resonate. Whether it’s empathy, urgency, or excitement, AI can miss the emotional tone that makes your brand feel human.
  • Overuse of Emojis: We know you’ve seen it. An emoji after every sentence or an emoji for every new line of copy 🙄 Sometimes AI adds too many and it removes the authoritative voice from your brand. Consider prompting your AI to only use a certain amount per piece of content.
  • Missing Industry or Brand Buzzwords: AI may miss the key terms and buzzwords that define your industry or brand, which are essential for creating authentic connections and establishing authority.

STEP 1: Define Your Brand Personality, Tone, and Voice

In order to ensure that your AI content reflects your brand, we recommend frontloading it with brand resources, preferences, assets, and anything else that would help define your brand voice. You’re going to want to be as clear and specific as you can about how to apply your brand voice to any future content. Here are some things to consider:

  • Define Your Brand’s Personality Traits: Describe it as if it were a person! Is it friendly? Snarky? Should it have a professional, authoritative voice or relate to your audience as a friend? Letting your AI know this helps guide the tone and style that it generates.
  • Infuse Core Values, Mission, and Vision: Upload your core values, mission statement, and vision so that AI can understand your brand essence and align its output with your purpose.
  • Use Buzzwords, Taglines, and Hashtags: Provide your AI with a list of brand/industry buzzwords, taglines, and hashtags to infuse them into your content to maintain a consistent brand voice!
  • Upload Brand Assets For Context: Consider adding performing social media posts,  blog posts, and promotional brochures and materials, annual reports and other brand documents to support identifying your brand’s vibe.

STEP 2: Train Your AI

Let’s be honest, most people input their AI prompt and call it a day. But getting what you want out of AI requires constant training and editing. It can help get you closer to your desired output but remember, AI is a tool, not a magic wand! Keep these things in mind while training your AI:

  • Be specific with your prompts: The more information you provide, the better content your AI will deliver. If you don’t like the responses AI is giving you, adjust your prompts and be as specific as possible to zero in on what you’re really looking for.
  • Refine the output: You’re going to want to make sure that you’re being thorough on what your AI is putting out. Some platforms have been known to put out false information, which could land you in hot water, so make sure you’re not just copying the response, but farming it as well!
  • Combine the output with other AI tools: Stack your AI tools, like editing software and SEO optimizers, to put out the best quality content and deliver the most value to your audience.

STEP 3: Use PAC Profiles to Refine the AI Persona

As much as we’d all love for it to be, AI isn’t a mind reader. If you want to generate content that resonates with your audience, you need to teach it who they are. Input your PAC (Perfectly Aligned Customer) profiles with information that includes the emotional needs, goals, and struggles of your target audience. You can also use AI to further develop your PAC’s personas as well! Here are some ways you can train your AI to speak to your PAC:

  • Pull out core traits like their goals, pain points, emotional triggers, financial brackets (if necessary)…
  • Keep your input clear. We know being wordy feels like the right move but being specific and concise is the best way to generate good results
  • You can identify your audiences in categories and prompt your AI using terms like “Audience 1” or “Persona 1”

Don’t forget to be consistent in refining your PAC! We, as humans, are constantly evolving in our needs. It’s okay to tailor your audiences as you identify them and learn more about their online behavior.

STEP 4: Conduct a Website Audit to Ensure Brand Consistency

Sometimes we get so excited about curating socials, blogs, newsletters, etc., that we neglect using our biggest asset– our website! Your site is one of the biggest components of your online presence and it should be your gold standard of consistency. Conducting a website audit with your AI is a great way to identify any gaps in brand voice across content. Here are some prompts you can use to align your brand voice across platforms:

  • Brand Voice Consistency: Analyze the content on [website URL] and compare it with the following AI-generated content. Ensure the tone and voice are consistent across both. The brand tone should be [insert your brand tone: friendly, professional, humorous, etc.].
  • Brand Messaging Consistency: Review the messaging on [website URL], including taglines, product descriptions, and buzzwords. Ensure the AI-generated content includes these same messages and uses consistent phrasing for products/services and features.
  • SEO Optimization Across Platforms: Analyze the SEO strategy on [website URL] and ensure that the AI-generated content uses the same keywords and structure for SEO. Make sure the AI content aligns with the primary keywords and intent of the website.
  • Align With Core Values & Mission: Review the content on [website URL] and verify that the messaging aligns with our brand values and mission, which include [list core values and mission]. Ensure that this message is reflected in the AI-generated content.

At the end of the day, making AI content sound human and authentic to your brand voice is all about the foundation that you lay down. By clearly defining your brand voice, consistently training your AI, infusing your authentic emotion, and making sure you’re paying attention to editing the content for consistency,  you ensure that your AI becomes a powerful asset for your brand.
